They say everyone's got one book in them . . .
I've recently come across a couple of books written by people whose lives fascinate me.
Out of Patience by Brian Meehl
This book, written for the 8-12 year-old crowd, is all about family curses, a magical toilet plunger, quirky characters, and small-town life. Does it sound very similar to Holes? Yes, it does, but that's not a bad thing. And Brian Meehl's bio states that he used to be a Muppeteer. A Muppeteer!!!!! Fascinating! How does one go from being a Muppeteer to an author? How did being a Muppeteer affect his view of the world?
The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless by Ahmet Zappa
Zappa, the son of legendary rocker Frank Zappa and husband of Hollywood starlet Selma Blair, has penned a book that is sure to appeal to fans of both Captain Underpants and the Spiderwick Chronicles. In it, a brother and sister team discover that they come from a long line of "monsterminators" as they rescue their father. Yeah, Zappa's use of names like Castle Doominstinkinfart may seem a bit crude, but I hope for good things from any member of the wackily creative Zappa family.
